Kåntan Chamoru: Dispensa Yu’ Palao’an Sa’ Ti Guahu Para Hågu

Ekungok yan gosa 🙂

ChamoruIngles
Håfa *po un cho’gue nu i palao’an?What will you do with the girl
Ni todu i tiempo gaige gi fi’on-muwho is always next to you?
Ya håfa po un cho’gue nai ni otro? And what what will you do with the other
Ilek-mu gaige gi halom korason-muyou said is inside of your heart?
Ya hu chagi ha sumangåni haoAnd I tried to tell you
Lao ti un ekungkok neni fino’-huBut you didn’t listen, baby, to what I said
Pues dispensa yo’ palao’anWell I am sorry girl
Sa’ ti guahu para håguBecause I am not the one for you
Tumetekkon påpa ilu-hu I bow my head
Kada hu hungok neni i na’ån-muEvery time I hear, baby, your name
Sa’ Hekkua’ håfa ta’lo bidå-mu Because I don’t know what you did again
Ai neni håfa **chinot-muAi baby what is wrong with you?
Hu chagi ha sumangåni haoI tried to tell you
Lao ti un ekungkok neni fino’-huBut you didn’t listen, baby, to what I said
Pues dispensa yo’ palao’anWell I am sorry girl
Sa’ ti guahu para håguBecause I am not the one for you
Dispensa yo’ palao’anI am sorry girl
Sa’ ti guahu para håguBecause I am not the one for you

*po un is a shortened form of para un, and para is a future tense marker
**I am interpreting håfa chinot-mu as håfa chetnot-mu, which literally translates to “What is your illness” but is understood as “What is your problem?” or “What is wrong with you?”

  1. Actually, it sounds like the first four lines are two questions:

What are you going to do with the girl who is always by your side?

What are you going to do with the other you said is in your heart?

Also, another way to interpret “Håfa chetnot-mu?” is “What’s wrong with you?”

    1. Thank-you for clarifying those first few lines! I honestly was confused about those lines, especially in the context of the chorus. It almost sounds like the singer is talking to himself in those first two lines – is that how you would interpret it? I will correct the translation, thanks again!

And also, thank-you for providing another interpretation of Håfa chetnot-mu !
