For the longest time I just called this the “håfa adai song” because I didn’t know the title. I love hearing this song at the beginning of parties or gatherings, as it gives a nice warm, welcoming vibe. From a learning perspective, this song is also great for beginners because it’s sung at an easy tempo and the lyrics repeat often. So here are Chamorro lyrics and an English translation for the song “Islas Mariånas” by Island Breeze. Happy listening!

Notes
1 Makelaguen i binådu: Here the word kelaguen is used as a verb, which means that the deer meat was made into a kelaguen dish, meaning that the meat was cooked in lemon juice.
2 Unu ha’ na korason-ta: I translated this as “We have only one heart” because of the na connecting the Unu ha’ and korason-ta. Another translation might be “There is only one of our heart.”
3 Titiyas, kelaguen, and fina’denne’: All of these are Chamorro foods. Titiyas comes from the Spanish tortillas and refers to flatbread made with a starch, usually corn or flour. Kelaguen a dish of chicken, seafood, or meat cooked in lemon juice. Fina’denne’ is a dipping sauce, often made with soy sauce and lemon juice or vinegar, with onions and peppers.
